Faith is not a commodity to be consumed, but a life to be cultivated. Part of that life is the heart posture of generosity - a cheerful willingness to give away what's in your hands - to offer all things back to God and to our neighbor. In fact, Paul notes, that we cannot experience life to the full (John 10:10) apart from being radically generous - with our finances, with our possessions, with our gifts, with our time, etc. This is the way of Jesus.

Influencers on YouTube seem to have it all together - it's a constant and never-ending care for branding and image. What kind of influence would you have if your YouTube channel was nothing but a laundry list of failures? Paul, in his letter to a young Pastor Timothy, is quick to point out his failures, his weakness, his very storied past. Why? Paul knows that influence is not about perfection, but about helping people see one's progress and growth through the work and mercy of Christ Jesus. We're all on a journey toward Christ-likeness and our influence with others will be best received when we present ourselves as those “still in process” on that journey.

Show and tell is often a school highlight for many children. It's an opportunity to both show and tell others about something which has significant meaning in one's own life. Like it or not, those times of show and tell influenced upcoming birthday and Christmas lists. Show and tell may still exist in elementary schools, but it is no doubt alive and well on YouTube. Our greatest kingdom influence is nothing more than showing and telling others what God has done in our lives.

Sermon | ”A Lot of Little” | October 8

A bustling crowd, hungry after a day of listening to Jesus, is left in the hands of disciples. 'You feed them,' Jesus says. How could the disciples, with little food, and even less money, find a way to feed all these people? The only provision is the bread and fish of a young boy. But, what could it do? Such meager offerings for such a large task. We often wonder what kind of influence we could possibly have in the lives of others. Who are we? We have so little knowledge, so little expertise, so little to offer to the mission of Jesus. But, when we take what's in our hands, and place it back in the hands of Jesus - He will do exponentially more with it that we thought possible.

Jesus has declared that the harvest is already ready - there are loads and loads of people who are ready to hear the good news of Jesus and His kingdom. And Jesus is calling each of us to be working in this harvest! Yet, many do not actively participate in the harvest because they fear it's too big a job for them. But, what if, actually, the job is smaller than you think? And what if, God has already prepared people for you? Jesus is guiding us to see who our people of peace are - so that we can bring kingdom influence.
