Sunday Worship "The Distraction of Silence" | March 29
Monday Mar 30, 2020

Sometimes, when life gets the hardest, God seems the quietest. Where has he gone? His seeming silence can feel deafening. In the valleys of life, when God seems distant and silent, the clearest sense of obedience comes. Just then is the opportunity to believe, to trust, and to call God “Father” in prayer as Jesus modeled on the cross.

As we continue to walk through the season of Lent, we do so by listening well to God’s Word. We continue to pray that this Word is blessing to you in this season. Psalm 63 is a wonderful psalm of David that has much to say to you and me. When we’re feeling dry (emotionally and spiritually), King David has a prescription that will satisfy our souls and release our lips to bring him praise.

Subtle Sins. We might notice, but often do nothing, because we don’t consider them a big deal. Yet, together and over time, they lead us further and further from God. We are vulnerable to the subtle and unforeseen forces of satan. We deny Christ not only in outright renunciation but also in subtle and gradual separation from God.

Dissatisfaction seems harmless enough. It’s an honest appraisal from our own perspective. Shouldn’t that critique be helpful? Yet, dissatisfaction with Jesus, is what lead Judas to betray Jesus. In fact, Christ is betrayed whenever we set ourselves above Him as critic, instead of below Him as disciple. Maybe our opinions and “ideas for improvement” aren’t so innocent.

When Jesus first shows up in the public eye, he identifies himself as the long-awaited King of the world and asserts that his active rule and reign has begun. He says “the Kingdom of God is at hand” (Mark 1:15). He tells us that we need to notice and adjust our approach to life accordingly. But what does he mean by that? What does that look like in our day to day lives? What is this Kingdom anyway? Let’s pray that we’ll have eyes to see and ears to hear, so that we don’t miss why God’s reign rules.

Ash Wednesday - "The Undone Garden - The Redone Garden" - February 26, 2020

A field once teeming with life is dry and dead. A garden once green and lush is void of its color. A people once dripping with God's presence is isolated and alone. Isolation, death and devastation appear to be the foregone conclusion. Dust we are...and to dust we will return. BUT, so will life, color and God's Spirit. Oh yes, they will return. But not without the compost of repentance. Tonight we allow God to bring our hearts to repentance, that the hope and glory of life may be planted in it.
