How many of us are entering into the voting booth with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. IF social media is an indicator...not many of us. Perhaps the way to be understood, to be heard, is to first have your heart postured by God’s Spirit. What would happen if we led with fruit and became fruitarian?

“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”
Theme: I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but JESUS asks a lot of questions. In fact, Jesus is a ninja when it comes to asking good questions. As followers of Jesus we ought to reflect this same quality. BUT, far too many of us pride ourselves on statements rather than questions (preachers included). As we attempt to live on both sides of the aisle, we’ll need to ask more questions, gaining understanding of those who have different opinions than we do, searching for the why in the what.

Time is a strange thing: we kill it, we waste it, we keep it, we are robbed of it. Nevertheless, time waits for no one. So, how do we not simply let time get away from us? How do we make sure that our use of time is God-honoring? How can we do more than simply count the days? How can we make our days count. In this series Over Time we will explore what kind of difference you can make in another if you invest Over Time.

Most people think they own the market on truth. We often make this error as well. We think we are the most learned, the most informed, and the most mature. We think ‘other people can’t be nearly as right as I am.’ The current political climate in the US bears this out. Everybody is right and nobody is right. People, Christians included, are asserting that their position is right one (and they really mean ‘the one which is true.’) However, there is only one truth and HE is a person. It’s Jesus. If we want to make the right decision in the voting booth, we’ll want to spend considerable time with HIM who is the truth. Practically speaking, we need to know Jesus, and we need to know Jesus in us and Jesus in others.

“It’s not fair!” is a phrase cemented in the human experience. Like it or not, we demand fairness. But, in the ways of Jesus (and, frankly, in the world), fair doesn’t mean equal. Jesus tells a story that puts fairness and equality up against each other. Is it fair? Is it equal? Or is this the wrong question all together? Perhaps, the parable has something to say about the Father’s unfair love for his prodigals.

Saul had wasted no amount of time and energy persecuting, and even bearing witness to the stoning and death of Christians. So, imagine Ananias’ surprise when God commands him to bless and commission this same person to be a preacher and evangelist for Christ. Like the older son in the prodigal story, his initial reaction is one of “not fair” and “doesn’t make sense.” Frankly, it’s a bit whiny. Yet again, God continues to prove that nobody, not “even the worst of these” is outside of His grace.

“Hold on!! You want me to marry a person who sleeps around with other people, then watch as they continue to sleep around with other people, and then come back to forgive them and receive them back?” Seems all kinds of crazy, doesn’t it? This is the story Hosea. In fact, the book of Hosea could be a news headline in 2020. Through all the chaos, through all the infidelity, through all the junk...God continues to be faithful. He is the prodigal’s father.
