There is a desire in all humanity to “be good.” For those who follow Jesus, there is a desire to be holy as He is holy. We attempt it, we strive for it, we work hard to reach it...and yet, inevitably, we end up more aware of our sin than our holiness. Our “urges” are out of control. There is a battle, as St. Paul says, between the flesh and the spirit; between what I want to do and actually do. When we recognize this battle - we grieve.

Communion has always been a goal of our Heavenly Father. When he created humanity all those millennia ago, he did so with a deep desire to “be with” his people. To be in their presence and theirs in His. To commune one with another. Yet, for many in our culture today - God feels far away. There is no communion. There’s no presence. There’s just...nothingness. Our hearts ache and long for communion. And until we receive it - we grieve.

Sickness and disease. We are well acquainted with each...especially these days. Sickness and disease are a stark reminder of a broken creation, of a body that is NOT fully whole. We long for health, true health, where bodies are never breaking down, being overrun with cancer, or chronically in pain. Until that day, we grieve. It’s appropriate to grieve.

Peace-making has more to do with sharing the gospel than being the person who ends an argument.
Peace-making is a practice of following Jesus who first made peace with us. Having first received HIS peace, we are now bearers of that peace...though, not everyone will receive this peace.
Some will receive it as a sword that cuts and hurts.
Yet, as followers of Jesus, we are sent with His peace to give away.
