Filled with love and power, having walked with Jesus, we are sent out to the places where we live, work, and play in order to walk with everyday people...every day. However, for lots of Jesus followers, they are fearful and intimidated by this work - often claiming they don't know enough. But what if walking with everyday people everyday is as simple as being present in someone's circle? Being present in their story. What if walking with everyday people every day is actually quite simple? What if it's easy and light? Jesus invites us to walk like he did - to be fully present in the stories of others.

When Jesus invites people to follow Him, He's inviting them to walk with Him...wherever it leads. And here's the crazy thing - when we walk with Jesus, we are invited into an abundant life - a life full of love - both in receiving love and giving it away. When we walk with Jesus we are invited into a life of power - not of position. When we walk with Jesus, we are filled with His love and His power so that we can walk with everyday people every day.

Sermon | ”Walk with Me” | September 10

What have I gotten myself into? This is the question people often ask when what they expected doesn't mater their actual experience. Jesus invites us, you and me, to become fishers. But does our expectation meet reality? Does Jesus' expectation of us meet reality? Do we even know what He means? The call of Jesus to follow Him is a "yes" to a bunch of stuff you don't know and "NO" to a bunch of things you do. The call to follow Jesus is a invitation to walk with Him...wherever it leads.

The Labor Day holiday is an opportunity to reflect on the nature of work. Since the beginning of the world, God designed humanity to work - and that work has always been about serving - serving the creation, serving one another and serving the Maker. Work is, dare I say, a holy thing. Yet, for many, work is often a burden and it's rarely considered holy. Not surprisingly, the Way of Christ can help to shape and form us to see the work of hands, the words of our mouths, the ideas of our minds as opportunities to serve others and the creation. And that, that is holy work.

St. Peter, in the opening of his letter, reminds us that we are temporary residents here on earth. And, the trials we experience while here, are also temporary. BUT, what we possess in Christ, what have been won for us through death and resurrection, what is ours through the pure gift of grace...that, that is eternal. By focusing on God's larger story, His eternal plan, and our eternal inheritance in Christ, we are able to stand the test of faith and be filled with inexpressible and glorious joy.

Sermon | ”Sojourners in the Father’s Care” | July 30

St. Peter, as an elder and apostle, writes to followers of Jesus in order to bring them HOPE and to help them recognize their own trails and suffering within the greater story of Jesus. In fact, in his few opening words, Peter provides a whole sermon - about identity, about our Heavenly Father's care. Knowing that we are temporary residents here on earth, undergoing our own trails and suffering, St. Peter powerfully reminds us that we are NOT outside of His purpose and grace.
